Quitting Medication and Regaining My Mental Health

After finishing my college education, I found myself in a period of uncertainty again. I had been taking medication for almost 10 years and knew that I had to make a change to truly find balance. In 2021, my life was turned upside down by the sudden loss of my mother. This experience brought me to a low point, but at the same time it gave me the strength to reduce my medication for good and find my true calling: helping others on their path to mental and physical health.

Healthy Greetings,

Want to know more about my story? Maybe you recognize yourself in it. I'm curious about your story! Feel free to send me a message for a no-obligation tip, and who knows, we can work together to achieve your goals.

From Struggle to Strength: My Journey to Mental and Physical Balance

My name is Hendry Kooistra, a 29-year-old man with a passion for a healthy lifestyle and calisthenics.

However, this sporty version of myself wasn’t always who I was. As a child, I went through a lot and was labeled with various diagnoses, which made it difficult for me to function in society. Eventually, I ended up in special education but still managed to earn my VMBO diploma at a vocational level.

At 16, I got caught up in a period of partying and drug use. Two years later, I quit, but I was confronted with anxiety and panic disorders, for which I was prescribed a lot of medication. Despite that, I decided to turn my life around and started various educational programs, including culinary and logistics studies.

At 19, I discovered calisthenics, a sport that changed my life. It motivated me to live healthier and more consciously. After several years of working in logistics and completing a supervisor-level 4 study, I decided to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Sports Science. I realized that if I truly want something, I have the willpower to achieve it, although I didn’t always know how to channel that strength.

Setbacks have an upside; they fuel new dreams!

True strength comes not just from physical training, but from the courage to heal and grow mentally
